Divorce Recovery Stress Indicator

When recovering from divorce, we experience many stressful reactions. The more reactions that "rent space" in our head, the more stress we feel and the more difficult it is to attend to the tasks of making our recovery from divorce successful. Below is a list of some of those stress-inducing reactions.

How many of the following statements below ring true for you? For each statement, check the box if it is TRUE or MOSTLY TRUE. Do not check the box if it is FALSE or MOSTLY FALSE.

I wish people would stop advising me to start dating again
I worry that I will never find true love again; that I will always be alone.
I have periodic fantasies of reconciliation that puzzle and upset me.
I feel 'adrift' or not quite sure 'who I am' now that I am divorced.
I worry that maybe my best years are behind me.
I often envy the lives of others, especially the 'happily married' ones.
I sometimes find myself wishing unpleasant things would happen to my ex.
I feel disillusioned by the institution of marriage.
I find that the new dating relationships I form end up feeling empty and going nowhere.
I feel anxious, overwhelmed, drained of energy, and resentful towards life in general.
I want to return to the mainstream of life as soon as possible, but don’t know exactly how.
I think about how good my life used to be.
Sometimes I secretly wish my ex would return and we’d get remarried.
I don’t feel quite “whole” now that I am divorced.
I really didn’t cause the breakdown of our marriage.
